How to Remove Tree Sap From Cl0thing
Happy New Year! As we box up decorations and say goodbye to the Christmas tree, it’s pretty common to find a little pine sap hanging around on tree skirts, blankets, or even your favorite hoodie. Before you toss it back in the closet or give up on it completely, we’ve got a tip that can help. Welcome back to Laundry Tip Tuesday—your go-to spot for easy laundry fixes and a fresh start to the New Year (with a little help from your friends at the laundromat). 🌲🧺
Items needed: A spoon or knife, toothbrush, paper towels, hand sanitizer or alcohol, liquid detergent: recommendation Tide Ultra Stain Release, or Original Tide.
Step 1:
Grab a spoon or knife. You’ll want to gently scrape off any extra sap from the piece of fabric. After you’ve cleared as much off as you can, grab either alcohol or hand sanitizer. We want to make sure the color won’t bleed off so you’ll want to test this next part out on either the inside of your clothing seam or on the bottom of your tree skirt where you can’t easily see it first. After you’ve let the test area set for one-three minutes, take a paper towel and dab. If no color comes off, you can then repeat this step on the stained area.
Step 2:
Before loading into the wash, pre-treat the stain with a liquid detergent, like Tide, directly to the stain. You can either rub the fabric together over the stain or use a toothbrush to help break up the sap more. Let it sit for 5 minutes to let the detergent work into the fabric.
Step 3:
Load in the fabric (do not wash off the pre-treated area) and add in your detergent to the machine. Use the correct amount directed depending on your detergent of choice.
Step 4:
Wash on the warmest water temperature directed on the specific clothing or fabric item.
Step 5:
Unload the fabric once the wash cycle is complete and check if the stain removed. If it still visible, repeat these steps before tossing into the dryer. Once it’s gone through the dryer, the stain is set and will be much more difficult if not impossible to remove.
