Rug care 101

Spring is right around the corner, and while many of us focus on closets and kitchen cabinets during a seasonal refresh, there’s one hardworking household item that often gets overlooked: your rugs. They catch muddy shoes, pet paws, spilled coffee, and everything in between. If your floors are feeling a little less than fresh after winter, March is the perfect time to give your rugs the attention they deserve.

That brings us to this week’s…

🧺 Laundry Tip Tuesday: Keeping Your Rugs Looking (and Smelling) Fresh

Not all rugs are created equal, but many can be safely refreshed at home with the right approach. Here are a few simple DIY tips to keep them looking their best:

Home Washable Rugs

At-home rugs that you can wash yourself sound great, but the reality can be quite different. Washable rugs were meant to be tossed into your washer and dry right at home, but most of these rugs are far too big for the average home machine. Plus, trying to do so can lead to damaging either your rug, your machine, or worst, both! Leading to an even bigger headache to deal with. If your rug isn’t able to dry properly, it can lead to other damaging things like mold build-up.

For the best results, visiting your local laundromat can be the best option, where they have larger machines available to properly wash and dry your rugs. As a reminder, if you have a rubber-backed rug, always check with an attendant to make sure it’s safe to wash before throwing it in. Most rubber backs can tend to break apart due to the high velocity of the machine’s spin cycle.

Everyday Care:

To help maintain your rugs, it’s more than cleaning a spill when it happens. Regular cleaning, such as vacuuming, can help save the fibers in the rug from everyday dirt and grime from setting in.

When a spill happens, no worries, just be sure to blot- never rub, so the spill doesn’t spread further.

Try rotating your rugs! If you regularly walk on a particular section of your rug, it can lead to worn-out sections very quickly. Rotating can help prevent fading and help your rug look fresh longer.

When To Call A Professional:

Do you notice a lingering smell all the time in your house, even after you clean? Do you sneeze constantly? Maybe there’s a spot on the rug that no matter how many times you’ve stain-treated it, won’t come out, so you’ve resorted to pulling the couch a little further over to try and hide it.

Life happens, and things pile up. These things might be due to your rug and all the dirt, grime, and allergens settling deep into the fibers of your rug that your vacuum just can’t manage to reach anymore.

At our laundromats, we have large-capacity washers, Perfect for area rugs that won’t fit in a standard home machine. Our commercial machines provide a deep clean while giving fabrics room to move. Our High-Performance Dryers offer proper drying. This is key to preventing mildew and odors. Our dryers help ensure rugs dry thoroughly and evenly.

Short on time? Bring in your smaller washable rugs and let our team take care of the washing and drying for you through our Drop-Off Wash & Fold Service.

Stop in this week and give your rugs the refresh they deserve! 🌼
