Gym clothes smelling bad?
Hello dear readers,
Enjoy your outdoor workouts, hikes, and everything in between!
We’re talking about how to take care of your activewear the right way. Some detergents and softeners can trap odors or break down stretchy fabrics over time, leaving your favorite gear less than fresh. Let’s break down some simple ways to get your workout fits smelling fresh and looking new again!
Top reasons your activewear smells
When you work out, the sweat from your body seeps into your fabric. That sweat and oil from your body are the main causes of the smell. Certain types of fabric, like cotton, are like a sponge soaking up and trapping the odors.
Washing your Gym clothes
These tips can help get the smell out of your clothes. Try these after your next workout session.
Turn your clothes inside out! Sweat is usually trapped on the inside of your clothes, so as a way to help target them directly in the wash, try flipping the clothes inside out before throwing them in the wash for a deep clean.
Don’t let them sit overnight! As soon as you’re back from the gym, throw them into the wash. The longer you let the clothes sit, the worse the smell. Plus, if you throw any other items in the bin along with your workout gear, that smell could travel to other items too. If you don’t have a full load of laundry yet, or you don’t have time after a busy workout, let the items air dry. This one tip can help not only your clothes from stinking, but your gym bag as well.
Take care of your gym bag, too. Got fresh gym clothes you just put inside your bag, only to pull them out once you get to the gym, and have them smell bad from the start? It’s probably your gym bag that’s the culprit. We recommend trying “Tide Antibacterial Spray” inside your bag. You can also try a couple of dryer sheets in your bag to help prevent dampness where bacteria can spread. When you aren’t using your bag, keep it dry and open to allow fresh air to flow.
Try baking soda or vinegar pre-soak
If you’ve already washed your clothes and they still have a musty smell, try using a small amount of baking soda or vinegar inside your machine. Run your machine with the baking soda first to clean out the machine. Then try washing your clothes again, following the instructions on the clothing tags.
